SCRAMBLING

SCRAMBLING provides one of the most exciting and satisfying ways of enjoying the mountains of the Lakes, North Wales and Scotland.

There are many popular and classic ridges such as Crib Goch on Snowdon, Striding Edge and Sharp Edge in the Lakes and The Aonach Eagach and Skye Ridges of Scotland. Additionally, there are hundreds of other less well-known routes which are well-documented in the Scrambling guidebooks.

While the easier scrambles are straightforward for sure footed walkers, tougher scrambles and the onset of bad weather can provide quite a challenge, and a range of skills and some experience are required to tackle them safely. Some of the harder scrambles are in fact easy rock climbs and demand some basic climbing skills in order to be tackled safely.

You can enjoy scrambling with Highpoint by enrolling on a scrambling course in the Lakes or Scotland, or by hiring a guide to either enjoy some classic routes or combine this with learning some skills.

Courses cover a wide range of techniques, such as how to move on different types of rock and on different rock features (eg Ridges, Slabs, Gullies), how to locate and follow scrambles and how to protect members of the group both in ascent and descent.

Hiring a guide allows you to tackle anything from the easy classics such as the Helvellyn Edges, through to a traverse of the Skye Ridge – probably the finest challenge in the British hills.
